Video tutorial - Fitness, Aerobics

Penny Lancaster apparently used to be a fitness instructor before she gave it up for a somewhat more lucrative career in modelling. She's obviously not lost her skills as she puts in a super performance on this DVD. Penny explains everything well and although I'm not a fitness expert, it seems to me like she point out all the safety matters too. She's enthusiastic without being scary and motivating without being patronising.

The workout is split into five sections: posture (7 minutes), warm up (11 minutes), main work out (20 minutes), floor work (13 minutes) and floor work cool down (10 minutes). The warm up and main work out are fun and enough to get you sweating if you put enough into it. Penny gives options of easier and more difficult positions for the floor work so everyone should be able to get something out of it. It seemed to be quite concentrated on the stomach muscles compared to Kate's Cardio Combat and most of the exercise classes I've attended.

There is no need for special equipment or a huge amount of space for this routine. Another positive point is the camera work; it shows useful split screens of Penny from different angles or the other two participants; Penny's brother and his girlfriend.

As well as the routine the DVD include an introduction by Penny, a look behind the scenes and a customised work out section. The introduction and behind the scenes part are fine- apparently Penny is happy just to smell chocolate and not eat it. Hmm! The customised work out is a glorified scene select although you can programme the sections in a different order should you wish. Amusingly, if you add the introduction to your workout it claims to become higher intensity!

Pros: Very well presented, nice location, good camera work, fun.
Cons: Probably not the highest intensity workout ever.
